Write down the first-year and regular-year totals separately

Introductory pricing can be a legitimate discount, but it should not be mistaken for the permanent cost. Record the amount due today, how many months that payment covers, the regular renewal amount and whether the plan automatically renews for the same term.

For a fair comparison, calculate at least one full promotional period and one full period at the normal price. A lower first invoice can still produce the higher two-year total.

CAD billing removes one moving part

A Canadian business paying a USD-denominated hosting bill takes on exchange-rate movement and, depending on the payment method, possible foreign-currency fees. CAD billing makes the invoice easier to budget even when the underlying service would otherwise be comparable.

Currency does not tell you where the server is located. Treat billing currency, company location and data location as three different facts and verify each one that matters to you.

Included services can change the real comparison

Backups, migration assistance, email, staging, malware tools, premium caching, control-panel licences and managed support may be included, optional or unavailable depending on the provider. Price the setup you will actually use. The base line item does not include tools or help you may need to add separately.

The reverse is also true: do not pay for a bundle merely because it contains more features. If you already use separate business email or an external backup service, an included replacement may have little value.

Migration cost is part of switching hosts

Moving WordPress normally involves the site files, database, DNS, certificates and often email. A free or included migration can be valuable when it covers the move you actually need, but complicated stores, large mailboxes or unusual deployments may still need scoping.

Ask what the migration includes, who changes DNS, how the old site stays available during the move and what the rollback plan is. A cheap hosting plan can become expensive when the move is rushed or incomplete.

Use cost per year only after the service boundary is clear

Once you know what each plan includes, compare the total annual cost against the work you still need to do yourself. That makes a managed plan, a regular shared plan and a self-managed VPS comparable on the same basis.

The lowest sensible price is the lowest plan that meets the site requirements and leaves a credible recovery path. Paying less while removing backups, support or required resources is not the same as getting the same service for less money.
