Network Looking Glass

See the path from DotMoose.

Run bounded ping, traceroute and repeated path checks from DotMoose infrastructure in Canada to a public hostname, IPv4 address or IPv6 address.

Run a network check

Test a public hostname or IP.

Choose IPv4, IPv6, or automatic selection. Every target is resolved and checked as a public Internet address before the diagnostic runs.

Ready.

Read the result

A useful route sample, not a network guarantee.

Ping

Round-trip reachability

Four bounded probes show a point-in-time latency and packet-loss sample. ICMP can be filtered or deprioritized, so a failed ping does not automatically mean the application is down.

Trace

Hop-by-hop path

Traceroute shows responding hops along the route. Missing hops can simply mean a router does not answer traceroute probes.

Path

Repeated path sample

A repeated traceroute sample sends three bounded probes per hop. Compare later hops before treating one non-responsive intermediate router as packet loss.

Source

One Canadian diagnostic vantage point.

The Looking Glass measures from the DotMoose diagnostic node. A VPS, shared-hosting service or optional IP arrangement can take a different egress path, so this result should not be treated as the exact route for every DotMoose service.

IP options

Need a different egress appearance?

Alternate public IP types are available by support request for compatible services. Tell us the address type or network presentation you need; availability and any pricing are confirmed before the order is placed.

Limits

Built for diagnostics, not scanning.

Public only

Private and reserved targets are blocked

The service rejects loopback, private, link-local, metadata, documentation and other non-public address ranges before a probe runs.

Bounded

Fixed probes and time limits

Probe count, hop count, execution time, output size and request rate are capped. Arbitrary command flags and ports are not accepted.

No BGP view

This is not a route server

The first version does not publish BGP tables or claim control of upstream routing. It reports only the network observations actually made by the diagnostic node.
