Independent methodology, owned by DotMoose

Canadian VPS price index.

A source-dated snapshot for buyers who want to compare plan shape, term, currency, CPU, RAM and storage before choosing a VPS. DotMoose is included and is not automatically ranked first.

Observed 2026-08-31

CAD offers first; foreign-currency offers kept separate.

Pricing becomes stale quickly. This snapshot expires after 35 days unless the sources are reviewed again. Always verify checkout pricing, taxes, region, IP terms and promotions before purchasing.

01

DotMoose — VPS 4

C$29.99/mo · 2 shared/scheduled vCPU · 4 GB RAM · 35 GB NVMe

monthly.

No mandatory multi-year term. Self-managed VPS; control-panel choices are separate. vCPU is shared/scheduled CPU capacity, not a dedicated physical-core guarantee.

Web Hosting Canada — Self-Managed 4G

C$31.99/mo · shown regular C$38.99 · 4 CPU cores · 4 GB RAM · 50 GB SSD

monthly advertised rate. Observed page shows C$31.99 discounted from C$38.99.

Provider page describes the service as self-managed with root access. Discount and regular price are both shown so a temporary promotion is not mistaken for a permanent base price.

03

HostPapa — Unmanaged Progress

C$34.95/mo · 4 CPU cores · 4 GB RAM · 100 GB NVMe

1-month renewal rate. New-customer 3-year promotional price observed at C$12.95/month.

The index uses the 1-month regular/renewal price instead of the 3-year acquisition promotion. HostPapa says all renewal-page prices are CAD and taxes are extra.

OVHcloud — VPS-1

C$6.20/mo · 2 vCores · 4 GB RAM · 40 GB NVMe

from monthly rate.

Provider currently labels this product line 2027 on the page; this index records only the observed price/specification. Daily backup of the previous 24 hours is shown on the provider page.

Foreign-currency reference set

No hidden currency conversion.

DigitalOcean and Vultr publish outside our CAD storefront currency. We leave their public amount to the provider source instead of selecting a convenient exchange rate to make a ranking look better.

Source currency

DigitalOcean

Verify current provider-native amount at source · 2 vCPU · 4 GB · 80 GiB SSD

USD is intentionally not converted to CAD in this dataset. DigitalOcean states Droplets moved to per-second billing effective 2026-01-01 with monthly caps for listed plans.

Vultr

Verify current provider-native amount at source · 2 vCPU · 4 GB · 80 GB storage

The vendor pricing page is bot-protected in our automated browser; verify the current Toronto plan in Vultr before purchase. Vultr documentation says pricing can vary by region. USD is intentionally not converted to CAD.

Methodology

What this index does—and does not—rank.

01

Comparable intent, not fake equivalence

We compare general-purpose, self-managed VPS/cloud VM offers near the 4 GB RAM tier where possible. CPU sharing models, storage media, bandwidth, backup, IP policy, support and regional choices still differ, so the table is not a performance ranking.

02

Regular term before acquisition bait

When a provider shows a long-term introductory promotion and a 1-month regular/renewal price, the index uses the 1-month figure as the headline and records the promotion separately. Where a page only publishes a “from” price, that wording remains visible.

03

Native currency stays native

CAD and foreign-currency offers are separated. A future FX-normalized view must publish the exchange-rate source, observation timestamp and arithmetic instead of silently converting prices.

04

DotMoose gets no ranking privilege

DotMoose owns this page and sells VPS service. That conflict is disclosed. We do not award ourselves a score, invent benchmark wins, or omit a cheaper competitor because it makes our price look worse.

05

Freshness is part of correctness

The source dataset records an observed date and automated CI fails when the comparison ages beyond its review window. A monthly scheduled workflow checks freshness even when nobody edits the site.
